May 30, 2014 - We continue to service families in need...
  • The Baby Corner continues to service families in need and the fundraising over the winter has made it possible for us to expand.  We thank all who contributed very much.  However, there is still a need.  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!  If you have a couple of hours once a month, on the third Tuesday, that you would like to share with us and our families please let us know.  When we go to twice a month distribution it will be on the first and third Tuesday of the month.  You can let the office know if you are interest.  We are praying for our future volunteers and hope you will prayerfully consider this opportunity.

    January 24, 2014 - We received a grant!
  •  “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10

As most of you know, The Baby Corner received a grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  We have to raise $10,000 by March 31st, 2014 in order for them to give us $5,000.  In other words, for every $1 we raise, we will receive $.50 from Thrivent.  We can raise the money however we would like.  It can come from personal donations, business contributions, bake sales, dinners, car washes or whatever we can think up.  The opportunity alone to receive this money has been and is a huge GIFT.  It is a gift that we intend to use to serve families right here in Anderson.  We can buy diapers and wipes.  We can open our doors twice a month.  We can become better stewards.
But, we can’t do any of this without everyone’s help.  We need to raise that money.  So, as February counts down, please be patient and tolerant of all the fundraising efforts going on.  Help as you are able.  Give as you are able.  This grant is a huge opportunity for this ministry and this Church.  As always, we appreciate all of you and the support you give all year long.  Thank you!  You all are so appreciated.

    November 29, 2013 - Baby Corner Thank-You Breakfast...
  • Baby Corner Thank-You Breakfast, Sunday, December 8th at 9 am - We have invited all of our Baby Corner participants to join us for a Fellowship Breakfast.   We need volunteers to bring breakfast food and drinks.  We also need Christmas gift donations of hats, gloves, mittens and scarves for the children that will attend.

November 27, 2013 - Sometimes we forget how AWESOME God is...
  • Sometimes we forget how AWESOME God is because we get too busy wrapped up in the details of our lives.  We run here.  We run there.  We go to this meeting or that meeting.  We work.  We work.  We work.  We fail to see the beauty around us and the significant particulars of the simple and mundane.  We shut out and tune out those people around us.  I do it.  You do it.  Our coworkers do it.  We forget to pay attention to everyone.  But when we STOP and take a deep breath and listen……we begin to realize that there other people around us going through the same struggles that we are.  We notice details and elements and specifics of life going on around us.  We are still and know that He is God.
I had one of those moments just recently.  I was so busy running from here to there.  I had this to do.  I had that to do.  The minutiae all ran together.  I forgot to slow down.  It was hectic. I was harried.  I was waiting for a business associate to arrive for a breakfast meeting.  I was a few minutes early.  I decided to have coffee while I waited and the waitress sat me at a table.  At the table across from me, were an older couple with a young child.  He was about 3 years old.  He was beautiful.  All chubby cheeked and round, bright blue eyes.  His dimples showed as he smiled at me from across the aisle.  I couldn’t help but smile back.  He then let out a giggle.  I smiled back again.  He began to laugh out loud.  It was the most beautiful sound.  Just a soul-wrenching delightful noise.  He put his head back and guffawed even louder.  His body squirmed and he was shaking with laughter.  The sound was exquisite.  People at the tables around his could not help but stop and stare and SMILE.  The wonderful noise of this child’s innocent laughter held everyone spellbound.  The restaurant got quiet except for this boy’s glorious laughter. We were all silent as we listened.  The best noise in the world is the sound of a child’s laughter.  It was a moment to STOP.  Be silent.  Listen.  Know that He is God.
Pam and I have had to Stop and Listen as we go on with the work of taking care of Christ Lutheran’s Baby Corner.  There has been so much to do.  So many things have needed to be attended to.  We have set up an inventory system, written a mission plan, done financial statements, set up a bank account, checkbook and bank card.  We have developed registration applications and forms that have been needed.  We have hopefully created a ministry that will be around awhile to help those parents that need the help.  It has been a HUGE process.  But, it was a road that needed to be taken.  One that I am extremely grateful to have been able to walk down.
We still are in need of donations of diapers, wipes, clothing and diaper cream.  Any help from you all would be greatly appreciated.  We also need volunteers to help distribute diapers on the Baby Corner distribution days.  We are also asking for members who would like to be on our Steering Committee to let us know.
As always, we continue to pray for all of the families that we serve.  We hope we are showing them Christ’s love through our actions.  We invite them to worship with us and begin a relationship with Jesus.  We show our example of how Christ changed our lives.  God will do the rest.

September 27, 2013 - In the last two months...
  • In the last two months, we have served over 80+ children at our newly named Christ Lutheran Church Baby Corner.  We have been able to standardize the amount of diapers and wipes to be given out for each child based on the diaper size.  We have written a mission statement and gone on to put together a mission plan as well.  What a great feeling to know that we have on paper a tangible, recognizable plan of action to help those families in Madison County needing our help. We even have a new logo, gracefully drawn and done by the founder, Pam Jones.  We continue to only be open once a month on the third Tuesday of the month.  But the plan is to try for twice a month, beginning after the first of the year.
We have had some wonderful volunteers, who continue to bless this ministry with their faith, skill, help, and most importantly, love.  We are extremely grateful to all of you whom have donated your time and efforts to this worthy ministry.
As Pam and I worked these last two months, I was reminded constantly of the statement, “When you show love, you are showing God to the World.”  It has been the hallmark of why this ministry was started.  It is essential when you get up every day that you put your energies into not how you can be blessed, but to find some way to be a blessing to someone else.  This is what Jesus spent his entire life trying to teach to all of us.  Miracles are around us every day in the change that can be brought by faith in another individual and their potential.  All you need to do is believe and remember Christ Lutheran Church’s Motto: to Encourage and Care for People with the Love that Comes from Christ.

July 26, 2013 - We are so pleased to report...
  • We are so pleased to report that The Baby Pantry distributed diapers to 41 babies in July, as well as 60 tickets to JamFest.  We now have 70+ families enrolled.  Many are faithful every month, some come occasionally, and some have come only once, but they know we are here when they have a need.  Your generosity has made this possible, and for that we are so grateful.

In July we began offering gently used baby and toddler clothing up to size T5, much to the delight of many moms and dads.  As we approach the winter months we would like to have some winter coats for toddlers up to size T6 to share.  Once again, they don't have to be new, just warm.

June 28, 2013 - As we all know, times are tough...
  • As we all know, times are tough in today's economy.  Everyone is struggling.  It is a time when we must stay strong in our faith in God and our faith in each other.
I remember when I was 6 years old, a missionary came to our church to preach.  He told stories of how people right here in the United States were poor and hungry.  He talked about young babies and children who did not get enough to eat and how they were in soiled diapers because their parents couldn't afford to buy food or diapers.  The stories were vivid and excruciating to listen to.  I had visions in my head of infants that were grubby, messy and soiled with mucky, brown, saggy diapers.  They had bare feet covered in mud and dirt.  It was a torturous picture in my mind.  The missionary prayed that we could help him make a difference in the life of even one baby.  At the age of six, I told myself that I could do that.  I wasn't sure how I could make a difference.  I didn't have a plan then.  But, the image of that soiled, dirty, poor baby was a constant picture in my mind and it weighed heavy on my heart.
I have been given the opportunity to realize the commitment that I made to God that day, to help make a difference in a child's life.  With the program Pam Jones has developed right here at Christ Lutheran Church, the Baby Pantry has the potential to meet the needs of many children.
There are so many people in need of help.  There are OPPORTUNITIES for Christ Lutheran to aid those who are struggling and minister to those who are in need of encouragement and guidance through God's Holy Word.
With compassion, acceptance, generosity and love in the example set by Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, the Baby Pantry strives to minister to infants, babies and young children.  We hope to provide an opportunity to provide access to diapers, wipes, baby clothing and other necessary items to those in need.

October 25, 2012 - I would like to thank everyone...
  • I would like to take this opportunity to thank the family of Christ Lutheran for your generosity and prayerful support of the Baby Pantry.  We are using the diapers, wipes and Vaseline, but we want to acknowledge that this ministry would not be moving forward without your prayers as well.  In September we served 6 babies and in October we had 14.  To the ladies who come to serve, thanks to you, too.  You are a blessing.

I would encourage you to be aware of those who could take advantage of this opportunity and don't forget grandparents who are raising grandchildren.

    August 30, 2012 - We are open!
  • Christ Lutheran Church will open a baby pantry to serve families in need of assistance with providing diapers and wipes for their infants and toddlers.  The pantry will open for the first time on Tuesday, September 18th.  We will need supplies of diapers, wipes and small jars of Vaseline to serve these families.

Donations will be accepted in the Gathering Room beginning the first Sunday in September.  Diapers, sizes 2, 3, 4 and 5, are needed.  Monetary contributions will also be gratefully accepted so that supplies can be purchased in bulk.  Volunteers are also being sought to man the pantry one time a month.
